Do not tank. Stay away from [skill]flashing blades[/skill] use [skill]critical defenses[/skill] remember quick chains and if you have nightfall get critical agility.

Shadow Stepping into a mob to "surprise kill" them doesn't work. You end up eating dirt.

before the aggro of a group this tactic is the worse possable thing a sin can do, once fighting starts, shadow stepping is a great survival tool
Also try and not do to much with your build keep it simple.

Yeah, they've got a point. Shadow Stepping does not work in PvE, you won't confuse the AI, and they can target instantly. Leave Shadow Steps out of your PvE bar, use it for PvP. Use the few increase movement speed skills instead.
One of the earliest Elites you can cap is [skill]Flashing Blades[/skill]. Get it, its not super, but it'll keep you alive while you learn to play, and to get to other better Elites (there's not many).
If you have heroes, bring an MM and let the minions go in first. A Prot Monk is cool too. Don't go in first, and that will increase your survivability by a few times.
Most of the skill damage is armour-ignoring, so feel free to engage Warriors. I usually feel that degens and hexes hurt a Sin more than damage from melee. Of course, Warriors usually do conditions

your best PvE party build for general questing is....
http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:A/...Blossom_Farmer
aside from changing a few skills around (keep the attack string intact) thats more or less the best build for pve. If you have problems killing bosses for some odd reason try this:
http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:A/any_PvE_Assaulter
keep the core concepts of the builds intact, but tweak skills for your playstyle. Or, don't change a thing and learn to use these builds.

Congrats! My bits of advice.
While you are on the island, keep your eye out for a simple Longbow, the sort that has no Marksmanship requirement. You do not need to be a secondary Ranger to use a Longbow.
It will be something like 7-11 damage, but the damage is unimportant. Two uses of the Longbow.
1. Pull. If one mob is close to another, flag your party back and shoot an arrow. Run back to your party and unflag them. Helps you fight one group at at time.
2. In some cases, you will want to begin combat with the Longbow. This will keep you from being first in line for the bombardments from elementalists and other annoying casters. And, with the party aggroed, you can then switch to your daggers and choose your target.
3. Like the folks say, get in, get out. Don't try to be a Warrior. Stay mobile.
4. Also notice that you can quickly run to any party member, by double clicking on their name in the party window; to run to their assistance, or just plain run as is the more usual case!

-You can be the best Sin in Guild wars if you don't run up to a mob and try to tank EVEN if you have a monk behind you. The main role of a Assassin is to shadow step to foe , unleash chain of attacks , shadow step back to ally and recover.

Few tips:
- Don't tank.
- Don't use Flashing Blades. [skill]Palm Strike[/skill] is much better and it's pretty fast to cap too.
- Best if you will get elite assassin tome and unlock assassin's promise (deadly arts spiker works in PvE too), Moebius Strike or even Temple Strike. Each is very nice elite.
- GET A HEALING AND UTILITY SKILLS! Who cares if you have 7 attack skills + shadow step if you die or, worse, if someone dies and you can't rez!
- Use high damage, short comboes. Don't put 5 attack combo, it's not worth it.
- Get Critical Defenses + Critical Agility.

i completely agree with you. congratulations you and I are on the same page and i don't think your an idiot!
the only comment i have is that palm strike is mediocre for the majority of pve play. sin vs boss in a 1 on 1 is the only time that I would use that skill were i not limited to it.
